Photograph of unrecognised woman
1910 — 1927
Museum of the history of Polish Jews
Part of the collection: Photographs from the collection of Halina Kamińska (Mamelok) née Baruch
The portrait photograph of a woman in a black evening dress with a brooch in the middle of her neckline posed against a curtain. Halina (née Baruch) described the photograph as showing Tosia [reading uncertainly], Olesio's wife, i.e. the wife of Aleksander Mamelok (Halina's brother-in-law, the brother of Halina's husband, née Baruch, about whom see note MHŻP-B793/2). We do not have much information about the woman, and we can only guess from the obituary she published together with her deceased husband's siblings in Kurier Warszawski [Warsaw Courier] (issue dated 22.12.1932, evening edition, p. 12), that she was a Protestant, just like her husband. It is suggested by the beginning of the obituary: To all the friends and acquaintances who have shown us so much cordiality in our heavy mourning after the death of | the late | Aleksander Mamelok | and especially to the Reverend Pastor Loth, the Management and Employees of Sp. Akc. Huta Poldi, the Polish Yacht-Klub, the Officer's Yacht-Klub of the R.P. and the Management of the Housing Co-operative at 51/53 Mokotowska Street - we offer our sincere thanks | WIFE and FAMILY. | PK
