Bottle

The beer bottle was found in the cellar of one of the townhouses on Panieńska Street in Szczecin, which had collapsed during war-time air raid. It was discovered during archaeological works carried out there in 1996, supervised by the Archaeological and Monument Conservation Laboratory in Szczecin. The artefact was made by Bohrisch Brauerei A.G. – one of the most famous and successful breweries in Szczecin. The story of this brand began in 1848, when the production of the Waldschlösschen beer was launched at Pomerensdorferstrasse 16 (now Chmielewskiego Street) – soon, the beer became popular on the brewing market. In 1861, a decision was made to sell the brewery to Julius Bohrisch who came from an old family of brewers. The new owner changed the brewery’s name to J. Bohrisch Bairische Bier-Brauerei. In the following years the brewery grew and built its position on the market. Despite the slowdown in production caused by the World War I, the company managed to survive the crisis that came in its wake. In 1920 it became a subsidiary of Ferdinand Rückforth Nachfolger A.G., which enabled its further expansion. It shut down in 1945, only three months before the Red Army entered Szczecin.
