So-called 'tiled clock'

The so-called 'tiled clock' with Baroque figures is a work of a Toruń clockmaker Nicolaus Dama from the 2nd half of the 17th century. A very complex mechanism with a wider range of indicators was installed in the clock. The horizontal dial shows hours, days of the year, months, duration of days and nights, time of sunrises and sunsets, as well as the phases of the moon and zodiac signs. The hours are marked with Roman numerals on the inner ring, and the minutes on the outer ring are indicated by two central hands. Between the two rings is a space for the calendar and the moon phases; it has hands that rotate on moving rings - a larger solar hand and a smaller lunar one. The clock's setting is a hexagonal case, the corners of which are decorated with moustachioed knights. The mascarons decorating the breasts of these herms and the lion-shaped legs are similar. The lions, which have decorative tails and bifurcating torsos, are rolling balls. The glazed windows are framed alternately with an engraved rectangular band and a combination of a rectangle and a semicircle. The entire clock was made of fire-gilded bronze. The displayed clock is the oldest one in the Łańcut collection.
