The bust is a miniature copy of the ancient bust of Dionysus Mitrophoros (a Roman copy of the Greek sculpture of Alcamenes, from about 430 B.C.; bronze, height 50 cm), found in the collection of the Museo Nazionale in Naples. Dionysus' head is three-quarters to the right and tilted downwards. A face with a moustache and a beard flowing down his chest. Hair parted in the middle, at the temples and above the nape of the neck, arranged in locks curled under a band passing through the forehead.
