Hound

Hound The bronze statuette of a hound was made by the French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879) around the middle of the 19th c. in Paris. He was one of the main representatives of animal sculpture, which flourished in the Romantic era. He created realistic bronze statuettes depicting animals: horses, hunting dogs, deer, fallow deer, as well as sculptures of hunting genre scenes showing animals fighting each other. The hound is depicted with his right front paw forward, with his head down, and his tongue out; he is wearing a collar with a leash tied to a tree trunk. The base imitates natural ground. Perfectly presented and very realistic depiction of a hunting dog. The sculpture is small; it is meant to decorate living interiors. In the Łańcut Castle Museum, it decorates a desk in the study of the last Łańcut Ordynat, Alfred Potocki.
