Sconce
XIX century
Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Lampy, żyrandole i kinkiety
A sconce in the classicistic style, made of bronze, with three candleholders. Additionally, this sconce was gilded using the hot gilding technique. In the past, sconces were used to provide spot lighting in residences as well as in spacious living interiors. Large metal bobèches with cups for wax candles are attached to the backs of the sconce’s arms. The arms, i.e. the bottoms of the bobèches, are decorated with stylised acanthus leaves. The sconce dates back to the 19th century. It was acquired from the Potocki family of Łańcut in 1944 upon the nationalisation of the museum. Its dimensions are: height 54 cm and width 34 cm.
