Part of the collection: Vehicles and harnesses

Popularization note

The Volhynian carriage, manufactured in the Volhynia region in the 1920s and used there in the estate of Terebne near Uroże, Sambor district, belonging to Ludwik Pawlikowski. It comes from a collection of nearly 100 horse-drawn vehicles gathered by the museum in Łańcut and constantly enriched. It includes vehicles of different kind, from presentable to rustic, from 18th to 20th century. They come primarily from museum purchases; only a few were donated. Most of them have undergone general conservation or restoration, already when belonging to the museum’s collection. The Podole carriage, which the museum bought in 1971, underwent general renovation in the Bogajewicz family carriage workshop in Pniewy. The Volhynian carriage in the natural colour of wood, to be driven by the owner in a two-horse or one-horse team, it has a box body of the wagonette type. At the front, there is a main two-person seat divided by a bump with side bar backs and a carriage backrest. The second seat, for the servant, is lower and rear-facing, with a flat mattress. The front mudguard and the horizontal mudguards, slightly curved at the ends, are made of wood. Wooden parts in ash tree, treated with clear varnish, metal parts in black.
