Mug

Tin was once commonly used to make everyday objects (plates, bowls, jugs). This was due to its high availability, as tin was much cheaper than silver and it was easy to cast objects from it. Tin products began to be popular as early as the early Middle Ages, and were most widespread in the 14th–16th centuries, but in the 17th and 18th centuries they were still very popular, especially among less wealthy users. The tin mug from the museum’s collection dates to the late 18th century. The container is cylindrical in shape, slightly flared at the top, with a thickened rim. The bottom is quite thick which contributes to the considerable weight of the mug. The decoration consists of two (top and bottom) bands filled with geometric ornamentation. Under the upper band, there are engraved letters “G.F.W.” and date “1703”. The mug in question is exhibited on the second floor of the Łańcut castle.
