Part of the collection: Outfit
The cover of the folded, pleated fan (never attached to the ribs of the frame) is made of white, kid leather decorated with gouache and watercolour. The decoration consists of three views of Roman ruins with staffage enclosed in a tondo of the same size. The central one depicts the Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum, while the two others show the ruins of unidentified buildings. The tondos are framed in narrow, linear yellow and black frames. Between the tondos and on the outermost sides there is a multi-coloured grotesque decoration. In the corners of the tondos there is an arabesque decoration: the central tondo is pink on a brown background, the others tondos are yellow brown on a dark sapphire background. The covering of the fan on the sides is surrounded by two candelabra grotesque ornaments - in salmon colour on a black background, while the entire cover of the fan is enclosed in a narrow linear frame, in orange.
The described fan cover belongs to the collection of 16 fan covers purchased by the Museum-Castle in Łańcut; 11 of them, including the ones described, form a cycle decorated with ruins of ancient buildings painted by the same painter.
