Ecriture The writing set consisting of an inkwell and a sander on a stand was made in the 2nd half of the 19th century in the Meissen porcelain manufactory. The first porcelain manufactory in Europe was founded in 1710 by August II the Strong, and it is still in operation today. Writing sets consisting of an inkwell and a sandpiper set on a stand were among the popular products of the Meissen manufactory in the 19th century. The above set is made of milk-white porcelain. It is made of milky white porcelain. Both utensils are round vessels with a wall surface imitating knocking, with wavy upper edges. In the upper concave surface of the sander, there are regularly placed holes, and its handle is shaped like a button and gilded. In the inkwell, the opening is closed by a cap with a button-shaped handle like that of the sander. The walls of both utensils are decorated with painted floral twigs. The vessels are placed on separate fields in a rectangular saucer with rounded corners, surrounded by a wall with a wavy edge. The mirror of the saucer is decorated with painted floral twigs: at the front, there is a large one with violet flowers and three smaller ones in the corners and at the back of the saucer. The edges of the utensils and the saucer are accentuated with gilded stripes. The writing set is one of the few Meissen objects preserved in the Castle in Łańcut after its former owners. Most of the valuable Meissen porcelain collected in the Castle by the Lubomirski and Potocki families was taken abroad in 1944 by its last owner, Alfred Potocki. Barbara Trojnar
