Plan of the Great City of Lublin

Popularization note

After Poland regained its independence, the Polish state was rebuilt. After one hundred and twenty-three years of bondage and war damage, despite financial difficulties, the cities developed. Roads and public buildings were constructed.

Between 1916, when the previous map was published, and 1931, Lublin changed a lot. The western part was dominated by residential and representative buildings, which housed offices, banks and hotels. The southern and eastern parts were of an industrial character, also due to the location of the railway station. The 1931 plan of Lublin takes into account the changes that took place in the previous decade.

In 1925, Nowa Droga Street, currently Piłsudskiego Street, was laid out, connecting the city centre from the junction of Narutowicza, Lipowa and Chopina Streets to the railway station.

Between 1925 and 1929, with the help of the Ulen and Company Company of New York, a sewage system was built in the city. The map shows the sewage treatment plant in Ponikwoda.

In 1931, a further part of the Dziesiąta district was annexed to Lublin, which increased the area of the city to 29.71 km². It was dominated by residential buildings with lots of green areas, which cover quite a large area on the map. More and more attention was paid to recreation and sports. The regulation of rivers in the urban sections was intended to prevent flooding.

One gets the impression that the authorities wanted to boast about the new Lublin. The plan, drawn up by the Regulatory Office of the Lublin City Magistrate, is very detailed, has a nice layout and is easy to read. It could serve promotional and tourist purposes. The red dots mark the bus routes.
