Medal of the 40th anniversary of the People's Republic of Poland

Helena Kurcyusz (1914-1999), an architect and town planner who settled in Szczecin in May 1945 and made a lasting mark on its history. To name but a few, she was a delegate of the Chief Conservator of the State for the inventory and protection of historical monuments, the first provincial town planner and employee of the Provincial Urban Planning Office, as well as an academic teacher in the Szczecin faculty of architecture. As a person of multifaceted expertise and interests, she was actively involved in the social and cultural life of Szczecin, and one of the "13 Muz" Club founders. Over the course of her life, Kurcyuszowa was honoured with numerous high distinctions and awards, including the featured medal commemorating the 40th anniversary of the People's Republic of Poland. Established by the act of 26 April 1984, on the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of Poland, it was granted to express appreciation for the efforts of working people in building and consolidating the socialist state, social and economic development and national culture. It was awarded between 22 July 1984 and 22 July 1985 for overall merit in a lifetime of a distinguished professional’s work and social and political activity. Anna Lew-Machniak
