Part of the collection: History of the city and the region
A signboard, which was once hanging over the entrance door to Mieczysław Jankowiak's (1910-1989) barber shop. For many years the shop was located on Farna Street in Łańcut in a small building, which was the last place where he ran his business. M. Jankowiak came to Łańcut from Poznań, where in January 1929 he passed the barber's exam and received a journeyman's certificate. He moved to Łańcut and settled there. Before he started running the business here, he worked for a few years for a well-known and respected barber – Stanisław Bojankiewicz (1897-1971). Bojankiewicz, who was a barber of the Ordinate – Count Alfred Potocki – ran a large and modern establishment, equipped with a number of hairdressing and cosmetic devices. He opened it in 1924 and ran it until his death in 1971. Until the 1930s, the establishment was located at the Ottona z Pilczy Street, after which it was moved to a small building next to the Danielewicz's townhouse at the present Królowej Elżbiety Street. It stayed there until 1963, when, as a result of changes concerning urban planning, it had to be moved to a single-storey building on Kościuszki Street. M. Jankowiak started working for Bojankiewicz in 1935. After passing the master's exam in November 1942, he opened his own studio, which also had to be moved several times. He operated in the Market Square, from where it was eventually moved to the new building on Farna Street, where it was located until the death of its owner in 1989. The establishment served both women and men. As was typical for the time, he also offered cosmetic treatments such as manicures, pedicure and leeches. It was given category II. There was a spittoon at its entrance, as was the case with many other public places. Joanna Kluz
