One-day event on 29 November 1830

Popularization note

The day's issue was published in Lublin on the occasion of the solemn celebrations of the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the November Uprising. The event was celebrated in a grand manner and with due setting, as any patriotic celebrations had been forbidden under the Russian occupation. In 1915, the Russian army withdrew from Lublin, and the arrival of Austrian troops brought greater freedom. From then on, patriotic feelings could be expressed and Polish history of the past century spoken aloud.

At the beginning of the new Polish state, still in captivity but hoping to regain independence soon, it became very important to nurture the memory of national heroes. The anniversaries of national liberation struggles were celebrated, the graves of insurgents were cared for, and the living veterans of the January Uprising were taken care of materially.

The one-day book contains a collection of essays and poems about the November Uprising. It describes the course of action and the fate of the insurgents. The texts are accompanied by portrait drawings of the uprising's participants, independence activists, and Grand Duke Konstanty, who was targeted by the conspirators.

Some pages are decorated with drawings depicting national liberation symbols: eagle, sword, rising sun. The illustrations were made by Konstanty Kietlicz-Rayski, a versatile Lublin painter and animator of the city's cultural life. He came to Lublin in 1904 and became a permanent member of the group of excellent artists. He became famous mainly for painting portraits. He was interested in folk art and ethnography. He created the series "Folk Types of Lublin", showing portraits of villagers in regional costumes. These works, published in the form of postcards, brought the artist great popularity. He also wrote articles on art, theatre, exhibitions, he also organized talks and lectures on art.
