President Stanisław Wojciechowski's visit to Lublin

Popularization note

In the first days of September 1923, the President of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Wojciechowski, arrived in Lublin. The Head of State was solemnly welcomed at the railway station by a delegation of representatives of local government, military and church authorities. Among those present were: Voivode of Lublin Stanisław Moskalewski, President of Lublin Czesław Szczepański, Bishop Marian Fulman and General Jan Romer, who headed the Corps No. II District Command in Lublin. There was also Leon Przanowski, a representative of the January Uprising veterans. Edward Rettinger, a barrister who actively participated in the city's social life, and other members of the established Reception Committee were also present.

During his several-day journey, Wojciechowski visited various towns in the Lublin Voivodeship. The distinguished guest was followed to Dęblin by the vice-voivode of Lublin, Stanisław Bryła. The train with the presidential entourage arrived in Lublin on 2 September at 10.30 a.m. The scene of waiting for the arrival was immortalised in a photograph. The photographer captured in the frame figures of men in elegant official dress and officers in parade uniforms standing on the platform in front of the station building. Even the aged Przanowski appeared in the prescribed veteran's uniform. In the line of greeters, there was also a boy in a scout uniform. Most of the civilians had two-coloured, probably red-and-white cotillions pinned to their chests.

During his stay in Lublin, President Wojciechowski visited the barracks of the 8th Legion Infantry Regiment and Lublin University (today's Catholic University of Lublin). He also visited a local aircraft factory operating under the name of "Plage & Laśkiewicz". In his honour, a solemn service was held in the cathedral, a military parade, a performance in the Municipal Theatre and a banquet in the Municipal Council Hall. Apart from the capital of Lublin Voivodeship, the President with his accompanying persons also visited Puławy, Kazimierz Dolny, Dęblin and Piaski and Chełm.
