Part of the collection: Postcards
A postcard with the so-called long address published before 1900 depicts the Łańcut parish church of St Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr. The photograph was taken during the great overhaul of the church, which was carried out in 1896-1900, commissioned by Elżbieta and Roman Potocki, as well as the then parish priest Fr. Emil Zauderer. The works were carried out according to the design of architect Teodor Talowski in cooperation with Lviv architect Dionizy Krzyczkowski, who designed the tower. In the course of the works, the church gained some neo-Gothic features, was expanded by adding a transept and a new presbytery, and below it, the Potocki family mausoleum was placed. In addition, the existing chapels were demolished, the vault of the main nave was raised, and the side naves were covered with a cross vault. On both sides of the presbytery two-storey annexes were added – the treasury and the sacristy to the north, and the patrons’ lodge to the south, on the top floor. The date of the photograph can be found thanks to the old Baroque tower, which was rebuilt during the renovation, and whose cupola can still be seen next to the new tower. It was one of the two towers of the western façade. In the 1670s they were covered with copper cupolas designed by Dutch architect Tylman of Gameren. The building visible next to the church is the present convent of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo built in the second half of the 18th century, expanded a century later. It originally housed a hospital, and then a school run by the order. Joanna Kluz
