Pot

Part of the collection: Metals

Popularization note

Pot (cauldron) of sheet copper, from the Potoccy collection, end of the 19th/ beginning of the 20th centuries, shaped as quite a tall cylinder, with a cover and two handles, also copper ones, on both sides, in the axis of the pot, one-third of its height from the top. The grips are shaped as bows, profiled, bent slightly upwards. The bottom of the base is reinforced by a further metal sheet, shaped like a ring, which was quite frequently riveted to such items. The cover is flat, concave, with a raised edge, adapted to the pot shape. In the centre, there is a quite tall rectangular grip, fixed to the cover by decorative rivets. At the upper edge of the dish the letter „P” is embossed (indicating that it originates from the times of the Potoccy family), and on one of the grips there is the number „30”. The inside of the pot cover is copper-coated. The pot is displayed in the Eastern Corridor of the 2nd floor, where copper goods (dishes) are collected that are mostly what is left of the non-existent castle kitchens.
