Plantain form

Part of the collection: Metale

Popularization note

Pound cake form from the collection of the Potoccy family; copper, hand made in the 19th century. Domed form, decorated, lower edge profiled, with a chimney at the top. The entire surface is made up of a herringbone arrangement of sharp formed edges. At one third of the height from the top, the edges break off in a spiral form. At the lower edge on the side, there is a small ring used to hang the form. Copper kitchen utensils were popular in the 18th, 19th, all the way to the beginning of the 20th century. They constituted equipment of any „self-respecting” kitchen, as they stood the test of time well and conducted heat, and the taste of the dishes prepared using them was better than the taste of dishes from other forms. It is said that fruit marmalades made in special pots (as is the case with other copper pots – after bleaching) had a unique aroma and texture. In addition, copper forms charmed with their shapes. The form is presently displayed in the Eastern Corridor of the 2nd floor, where a collection of almost 300 kitchen forms is found, the majority of which stems from the presently non-existent kitchens of the Castle of Łańcut.
