Part of the collection: Documents, prints, memorabilia and photographs related to Wincenty Pol and his family
An autograph (manuscript) of a letter of April 6th, 1916 – from Krakow, written by Juliusz Pol (1878-1921) to Aleksandra Lipińska, actually Aleksandra née Lipińska Romanowa, living in Lublin, as indicated by the content of the letter, in which the author mentions the addressee’s sons – it is a part of the Wincenty Pole Museum collection in Lublin. It is a reply of J. Pol, the grandson of the poet, an artist and painter, graduate of the Krakow School of Fine Arts, student of Leon Wyczółkowski, Józef Mehoffer, Jan Stanisławski and Stefan Kamocki, a member of the Common Association of Polish Artists, to a letter of his cousin who was married to Aleksander Roman. It was written under difficult circumstances during the First World War. It consists of four cards, eight pages, written on a plain paper, in legible characters, in italics.
Aleksandra née Lipińska Romanowa was collecting materials for the family tree of the Longchamps and Pol families, and she turned to her cousin in order to establish the facts of the ‘lineage of both families’. In response, Julek provided information known to him about the families’ connections and undertook to obtain more data – with exact dates – from Helena Estreicherowa née Longchamps, with whom he intended to meet in Krakow. He also shared his health problems, details about a difficult financial situation, and that he had only occasional contacts with his siblings, Jerzy and Julia.
Juliusz Pol’s letter to Aleksandra Roman is a gift of Janina Romanówna Mierzejewska (1904-1991), the addressee’s granddaughter and an outstanding Polish actress.
