Main Bridge

Part of the collection: Photography

Popularization note

Main bridge. The photograph depicts the main bridge from the west, and a portion of the western façade of the castle, with the library section. The façade of the castle originates from the upgrade made in times of the 3rd ordinary, Roman Potocki, just as the reconstruction of the library section by princess Izabella Lubomirska (d. 1816). During the upgrade works at the Łańcut residence conducted by the third ordinary, Roman Potocki and his wife, Elżbieta nee Radziwiłł, a new, main stone bridge was erected to replace the old one with side guards shaped as putti and eagles as well as vases, in which between Spring and Autumn decorative plants were potted. The photograph was made in late autumn, behind the chests used to cover them for the winter (a tradition continued by the Museum). Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
