National Museum in Szczecin
Part of the collection: Flurnamen Sammlung
The documentation was developed as part of the project initiated by Pomeranian linguist, Dr Robert Holsten (1862-1954), with the aim to collect and compile contemporary folk and archive names of natural and anthropogenic physiographic objects, as well as inhabited and uninhabited places of the pre-war province of Pomerania (from Rügen to Lębork), with the help of teachers and local scientists. The collected set of archive materials – indices and maps with locations of objects – Flurnamen Sammlung – covers the intangible onomastic cultural heritage of the region. Documentation of names of physiographic objects from the area of former Kreis Kammin (Polish: Kamień Pomorski; after territorial changes: Kamień District, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland), developed by Johannes Knieß, a pastor from Zebbin (Polish: Cybulino) and Ludwig Giese, headmaster of the school in Stolzenhagen-Kratzwieck (pol. Szczecin-Stołczyn). The documentation was compiled between 1924 and 1927 (Knieß) and between 1927 and 1938 (Giese) on the basis of queries carried out by school teachers from villages of the former Kreis Kammin. The collected material was collated by Robert Holsten in 1938. The original language is German (including the Lower German dialect). The collection consists of two parts: A-L and M-Z. The documentation consists of 216 sheets, some of them double-sided, including typed indices (189 sheets), press (Pommersche Heimat, 1924 and 1925; 4 sheets) and handwritten documents (21 sheets). The vast majority of the topographic maps with locations of physiographic objects and their names also survived in the documentation.
