20th century

Part of the collection: ceramics
A shallow plate with Chinese-style decoration. A shallow faience plate of a slightly creamy shade, covered with a grid of decorative cracks in the glaze, decorated with Far Eastern type painting decoration with floral and geometric motifs, and centred in the lip area. The detailed pattern of the decoration was printed in crimson; it was hand-painted on the glaze with paints in several colours: rust red, dark blue, green, sand beige. In contrast, paints in light blue, steel-green, celadon and yellow were used to a lesser extent. The decoration consists of a strip of geometric ornament with a rhomboid motif, extending just below the edge of the notch, followed by four large floral and plant compositions, and one with a broken bush motif, arranged on the lip, close to the ornament strip. The compositions are separated by leafy half rosettes. Gold can only be found in the strip surrounding the rim of the lip and the small elements of the three flowers in the large compositions. The underside of the plate is covered under the glaze with grey spots. Visible markings: in the centre the letter "B", the factory signature "BOOTHS" – both marks stamped in the body and a large stamp printed in maroon under-glaze: "MANUFACTURED FOR:/A.LA.PAIX,/34.AVENUE DE L’OPERA, /PARIS./IMPORTE D’ANGLETERRE". Below it is an inscription with the current inventory No. England, Hanley, 19th century.
