Roman and Elżbieta Potocki

Roman and Elżbieta Potocki Roman Potocki (1851-1915) was the son of Alfred and Maria née Sanguszko, and from 1889 third Entailer of Łańcut. In 1882, he married Izabela Potocki (1864-1883), the daughter of Stanisław, and again in 1885, Elżbieta née Radziwiłł (1861-1950), the daughter of Antoni Fryderyk-William and Maria Dorota de Castellane. Roman and Elżbieta Potocki had two sons, Alfred and Jerzy. The bronze plaque with Elżbieta and Roman Potocki’s portraits was made in Vienna in 1917 by Kazimierz Mieczysław Chodziński (1861-1921), born in Łańcut, Chodziński studied sculpture at the Kraków's School of Fine Arts. He mainly created religious sculptures commissioned by churches, as well as busts, medallions, and bronze portrait plaques depicting contemporary personalities (among others, the Potockis, the Tarnowskis). On a recessed background there is a medallion with left profiles in flat relief: Potocka with her hair combed into a bun, in a dress with a neckline, and Potocki with his hair pulled back, with a moustache, wearing a frock coat and a shirt with a bow tie. In the corners of the portrait there are the coats of arms of the portrayed: Pilawa (of the Potocki family), Trąby (of the Radziwiłł family). Barbara Trojnar
