Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Photography
The photograph shows destroyed buildings in Warsaw during the defence of the city in 1939. A 28-day air-land battle fought to defend the capital ended with the capitulation of Warsaw. During the siege, about 10% of the city's buildings were destroyed, including 78 thousand residential houses. On 30th September, German patrols appeared in the city, and on 5th October, a parade of German troops took place on Aleje Ujazdowskie.
The photo comes from the album of the Lubomirski princes from Przeworsk.
