Part of the collection: Retrieving the forgotten. „Pływalnia” Rafała Jakubowicza
One of two videos included in the work "Pływalnia" (MPOLIN-M1379/1-4), done in a form of a paradocumentary, with no commentary from the author. The work presents the condition and purpose of the building of the former synagogue in Poznań, which was used as a municipal swimming pool in 2003, as observed by the artist. In the video, subsequent sequences from the inside of the building, architectural details from the period when the synagogue operated and those typical of swimming pool interiors are shown. Details of the decor in the form of information boards, advertisements and entertainment elements (e.g. slot machines) can also be seen. A separate frame is devoted to the illuminated advertising of the BOSCH company, where elements of military equipment were manufactured by female prisoners of concentration camps during World War II. At the end of the video, the viewer has the opportunity to see the facade of the building, documented in the same year as the interior. The quality of the video, far from being perfect and up to the current filming standards, is a testimony to the time when the artistic action was carried out and the work was created. The colour video with sound is suitable for loop playback.
