Mantel clock with a well

A mantel clock with a case in the shape of a charming Arcadian well set on a white square marble base supported by four flattened brass knobs, symbolising the springs of life. The well has a body in the shape of a cylinder, with marked imitation of a grid of structural joints of stones. The round can with the mechanism is suspended under an arcade entwined with green ivy, made of enamelled metal sheet. A gilded chain with a bucket at one end and a ball at the other is thrown through the can. The boarding is surrounded by a chain suspended on eight brass bollards. On a round white enamelled dial, surrounded by double gilded beading, there are minute and hour hands with two open-work pointers. Below the axis there are two tension holes. The mechanism has a spring drive separate for the running and striking functions. The striking of the half-hours and hours takes place on a single bell, from a Parisian type ratchet wheel, with winding adjustment. An anchor catch is used here. The long, lightweight pendulum is suspended from a floss pendant. Its lens has the shape of a sun disc surrounded by rays.
