Trace chain

Trace chain for collar harness, 19th /20th century A trace chain made of white metal for a gentleman’s (i.e. driven by the owner himself) English style team, used for both shaft horses. The trace chain consists of a chain which comprises alternating long and flat chains which have two snap hooks in different sizes at both ends. The larger one has digit “4” imprinted on it. Each pole strap is threaded through one of two oculars of the shaft and attached at the front of the collar with two snap hooks. Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
