Table clock with Polish calendar

A simple black cabinet on a pedestal decorated with a profiled cornice houses the mechanism of an engineer work, a clockmaker distinguished for perfecting mechanisms of precise measurement, author of many inventions contributing to the improvement of clock mechanisms.

The dial of the clock takes up the entire glazed front panel, surrounded by a moulded ledge. In its upper part there is a round white enamelled dial with hour and minute hands with two hands, and one spring tension hole. Below it, on three levels, there are three rectangular holes with the day of the week, below it – the digital day of the month, and at the bottom – the rectangular hole with the name of the month, printed on white paper glued with linen. The mechanism had a spring drive, Brocot escapement and a light, short pendulum. A separate mechanism operated by the clock caused the indications to move by one day. A knob located on the left side of the cabinet tensioned the spring that changed the days of the week and the days of the month simultaneously. The knob on the right side of the cabinet was used to manually set the names of the months. The back wall of the clock case has not survived, on which the Parisian company A. Rédier placed a printed leaflet promoting the establishment and containing instructions in five languages: French, English, Italian, Spanish and German. Only the days of the week and the month of the clocks intended for the Polish market are given in Polish. The instructions were read by Polish clock owners in foreign languages.
