Women’s outer kimono, hand embroidered with silk threads and gold jap (wire wound on thread), with ‘satin’ stitch applied and interlaced on navy blue satin. Decorative motifs include ball-shaped bouquets of cherry and peony flowers, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, colourful ribbons and fans. Cream-coloured silk lining. The bottom of the kimono has a wide padded hem. Kimono was altered, sides are trimmed, collar missing. Japan, late 19th and early 20th century.
