Part of the collection: Bronze Age
The bracelet is made of thick brown metal. It has an oval shape, and its slightly overlapping ends are ornamented with a rhythmic grid motif. The remaining surface is covered with a very original decoration in the form of transverse ribbing. Such an excellent artistic effect was achieved by casting the bracelet in a unique form. This type of ornament is rare in Poland. So far, only three copies have been discovered in two Pomeranian and one Greater Poland hoards. The bracelet is an element of a hoard consisting of one more ribbed bracelet, three differently decorated bracelets and four axes. The deposit was discovered in 1906 during the digging of foundation trenches on the plot of land belonging to Herman Porath, the sawmill owner. All the objects lay together, directly in the ground, at a depth of about 0.5 m. They were transferred to the collection of the Society of History and Antiquities of Pomerania (Towarzystwo Historii i Starożytności Pomorza) in Szczecin. They were stored in Szczecin until August 1944, after which they were evacuated with other highly valuable exhibits deep into Germany to protect the Museum resources from destruction during Allied air raids on the city and probably from looting during the war. The deposit returned to the Szczecin collections only in 2009 due to the Polish-German exchange of archaeological artefacts. The deposit from Storkowo, dated to the 1st half of the 4th Bronze Age (approx. 1100-1000 BC), is connected to an early stage of the Lusatian culture settlement in Pomerania. It was an exciting stage of development of this culture due to its transitional character. The tradition of grave cultures, erecting barrows and depositing their dead in the unburnt ground, was mixed there with the new trends of the cultures of the circle of ash fields, preferring to establish large burial cemeteries.
