Part of the collection: Painting and drawing
Stanisław Bohusz-Siestrzeńcewicz, Market in Vilnius; signed: Siestrzeńcewicz/ Wilno. This framed lithograph stems most likely from a portfolio published in Vilnius in 1913, with several lithographs, entitled Siestrzeńcewicz. Rysunki piórem [Drawings in quill] („Quill drawings by Stanisław Bohusz Siestrzeńcewicz”). Born in the region of Vilnius, Stanisław Bohusz-Siestrzeńcewicz, having completed painting studies in Petersburg, Paris and Munich under Gerson, returned home, to draw an entire group of well-known, picturesque and suggestive rural scenes, hunts and market squares, mainly dealing with horses, and including horse racing as well. They will be published separately in the form of lithographs collected in the file. The present lithograph was purchased towards the end of the 1980s for the collection of the Łańcut museum, depicts a minor scene also referred to as the „flirt” with a bare-footed, laughing young woman showing off in front of several men. The background includes rural carriages and low buildings. A painting of this scene, done by Siestrzeńcewicz in 1907 (oil on canvas) is also known; it found its way to the antiquarian market in 2007.
