Stanisław Sierakowski (1881–1939)

Stanisław Sierakowski came from a wealthy aristocratic family from Waplewo in Powiśle. In his activity, he focused on representing the interests of Poles in East Prussia. He coordinated the preparations for the plebiscite in Warmia and Pomerania. He contributed to the creation of the Union of Poles in Germany, of which he was the president. On 20 October 1939, he was arrested together with his wife Helena, née Lubomirska, daughter Teresa and son-in-law Tadeusz Gniazdowski by a German paramilitary unit. Shortly afterwards they were shot in Rypin. The photograph was taken in the atelier of Ferdinand Schwarz, a well-known photographer from Malbork. Schwarz took detailed photographs of the Malbork Castle for conservation purposes.
