Bells

Part of the collection: Vehicles and harnesses

Popularization note

Saddlepad bells, 19th/ 20th c.

Among the historic purchases of the Castle Museum of Łańcut, presented primarily in the parade harness room of the castle stables, there are complete and partial tacks purchased by the museum – which thus created an interesting collection of horse tacks from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries; these were used primarily in court trains. Among them, the museum has an interesting collection of horse bells. Among the bells used for winter rides, the museum collection has two types – saddlepad bells fixed to saddlepads at the tack, or two the saddlepads themselves, and neck bells. These triple, flare form bells topped with eagle figures, resting on a low, also brass, bow form base, are fixed to the saddlepad with two bolts. The saddlepad is made of yellow leather on a quilted pillow, with a blue-white sackcloth belt, ending with leather belts with clasps.
