First version of lettering for the comic, sheet 3 (for “After my father’s death”)
2011
Museum of the history of Polish Jews
Part of the collection: Original comic art of “Golden Bees” by Monika Powalisz and Zosia Dzierżawska
The first page original comic art. It depicts Ita Kalisz peeking into the room of her sick, sleeping father, the tzadik. What he is dreaming of is unveiled to the reader later on: it is a bee swarm which transforms into the biblical prophetess – Deborah – who then sets the Jewish neighbourhood on fire. The dream to-be-reviled is foreshadowed by a symbolic detail of a bee in the last panel of the page. The first panel contains initial lettering by Dzierżawska – in uppercase.
