Hanging chandelier

Electrified hanging chandelier. The development of the first hanging chandeliers dates back to the Middle Ages with the difference that gradually incandescent lamps replaced candles. This chandelier from the Łańcut collection decorates one of the interiors of the Turkish Suite on the ground floor of the castle. The chandelier is made of brass with gilded decorations and dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The body is in the shape of a bowl, closed from the top with a conical lid. In the middle of the bowl, a light bulb is placed in a decorative casing, covered by a frosted glass lampshade. The body is framed by a metal rim with floral decoration. Eight chains join to form a decorative bundle at the top, enclosing the chandelier. Attached to the bundle is a hook on which the chandelier is suspended. Eight small arms, richly decorated with floral ornamentation with sleeves housing bulbs, emerge from under the rim of the bowl body. The individual bulb shades are made of frosted glass. In the bulbs, light is emitted by a heated tungsten filament. On the surface of the bowl-body there is a gilded decoration of palmettes and lion heads, the body is finished with a decorative rosette, the bowl is painted black.
