Gina Szwarc’s portrait

Popularization note

This sculptured portrait of Gina (Regina) Pinks Szwarc (who was publishing under the pen name Eugenia Markowa) (1895–1973) was created in 1944 in London. Gina and Marek met in Lodz in 1919 (see: Marek’s first letter in collection MPOLIN-A), and 35 days later they stood under a chuppah (wedding canopy). In 1920, the Szwarces moved to Paris, the same year that their only daughter, Zuzanna Teresa (Tereska Torrès) was born. The couple were inseparable (except for Marek’s service in the Polish army in Great Britain during World War II) until his death in 1958.RP
