Fan

Part of the collection: Outfit

Popularization note

The cover of the folded, pleated fan (never attached to the ribs of the frame) is made of white, kid leather decorated with gouache. The decoration consists of three tondos (one larger in the centre) with views of the ruins. On the central tondo there are ruins of an unidentified building with a staffage, on the left tondo there are ruins from the Roman Forum of the Temple of Venus and Roma and on the right tondo there are ruins of the Arch of Titus. Tondos ar enclosed in narrow linear yellow and black frames and the corners with a cream-beige arabesque on a brown background. This central composition is surrounded by the compositions of smaller tondos on the background of rich, colourful grotesques in the form of three stripes in narrow black frames. All compositions are framed in a narrow orange frame.

The described fan cover belongs to the collection of 16 fan covers purchased by the Museum-Zamek in Łańcut; 11 of them, including the ones described, form a cycle decorated with ruins of ancient buildings painted by the same painter.
