Popularization note

The cover of the folded, pleated fan (never attached to the ribs of the frame) is made of white, kid leather decorated with gouache and watercolour. The decoration consists of 13 quarters, with the central largest with a view of the pyramid of Cestius in Rome, on the sides of which there are six quarters in two rows (separated by stripes with pink ornaments on a brown background) with views of the ruins. Among them, we recognize the view of the Temple of Hercules on the former Forum Boarium (upper view on the left) and the ruins of the covering of the Temple of Saturn on the Roman Forum (bottom view on the right). From the top there is a framing with flower buds and a meander on a black background and a thin red line. at the bottom, there is a framing with a pearl ornament on a black background and a red line.

The described fan cover belongs to the collection of 16 fan covers purchased by the Museum-Zamek in Łańcut; 11 of them, including the ones described, form a cycle decorated with ruins of ancient buildings painted by the same painter.
