Part of the collection: Interiors
Time of construction: 1890s
Artists: Józef Brodowski, early 19th c.
Description:
The one-story apartment located in the northern wing, called the Turkish Apartment, belongs to the original 17th-century vaulted interiors of the Łańcut castle erected by Prince Stanisław Lubomirski (1583-1649), the first of this family to own Łańcut.
The fourth interior of the Turkish Apartment is a rectangular bathroom in the east wing, separated from a long, rectangular vaulted interior with smoothly painted walls without any architectural detail. It has one window in the eastern wall and a single-leaf door in the western wall leading to the vestibule overlooking the northern corridor (originally both constituted one room). The bathroom is permanently equipped with a bathtub and a washbasin in a wooden housing, a toilet seat with an overlaid "armchair" with a raised seat, and a corner, single-wing wardrobe with a mirror.
Initially, the interior was a dressing room, to which a mirror door led from the bedroom in the Turkish Suite; after 1862, it was replaced with another, probably the current one – single-winged on the bathroom side with a tempera-painted view of Wawel from the steep west. The painting is likely by Józef Brodowski, comes from the early 19th century and was discovered under the cretonne upholstery during conservation in 1959. The door panel was covered with Cretonne during significant renovation and modernisation works carried out by the third ordinate Roman Potocki (1851-1915) and his wife, Elżbieta nee Radziwiłł. Then, in the 1890s, after connecting the water supply and sewage system in the former dressing room, the Gramlick company installed a modern bathroom with a toilet.
