Oval vase
1800 — 1899
Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: Sculptures
An alabaster paperweight in the shape of an oval medallion. It is decorated with a semi-plastic arrangement of flowers, vines, and fruits placed in a basket. The paperweight was made by an unknown sculptor in Italy. It should be dated to before 1787. It was brought from Italy by Princess Izabela Lubomirska (1736-1816) to her palace in Warsaw. Together with three other similar paperweights, it is included in the list of alabaster objects brought from abroad to Lubomirska's Warsaw palace in May 1787 (see B. Majewska - Maszkowska, Mecenat artystyczny Izabelli z Czartoryskich Lubomirskiej (1736-1816), Wrocław 1976, p. 354). Barbara Trojnar
