Popularization note

A portrait of Henryk Lubomirski by C. G. Grisler, from the 1920s/ 1930s. The photograph depicts prince Henryk Lubomirski (1777-1850), son to castellan Józef Lubomirski from Równe and Ludwiki Sosnowska, raised by princess Izabella Lubomirska. Since 1807, was married to Teresa Czartoryska, daughter to Józef Klemens and father to Izabela Władysławowa Sanguszko, Jadwiga Eugeniuszowa de Ligne, Dorota and Jerzy Henryk. He owned Przeworsk, given to him by the princess, and the Vienna palace. He was a Maltese order chevalier and curator of the National Ossolińscy institute, as well as the creator of the Lubomirscy museum of Lviv. This charming, intimate depiction in pencil and ink, made in Geneva by order of princess Izabella Lubomirska, his caretaker, depicts the young prince Henryk Lubomirski with a dog and harp, and is signed „1791/ C.G.Geissler del Gèneve”, with a dedication on the dog’s collar „à H.Lub.”, and was found in the collection of prince Lubomirski, and then of his heirs in Przeworsk and Lviv. After World War II it made its way to the collection of the Ossolineum institute of Wrocław. It was contemporaneously accompanied by a drawing also authored by Chrystian Gotlieb Geissler depicting an intimate concert - princess Izabella Lubomirska nee Czartoryska playing the harp, prince Henryk Lubomirski with a harp and two French emigrants with a violin and flute. The watercolour that is based on this drawing is also found in the Wrocław Ossolineum collection. Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
