Part of the collection: Metals
A cigar case decorated with engravings and enamelled cavalry pennants. Made of brass (prabably gilded), cuboid-shaped with a hinged lid. On the lid there is a decorative, silver lance with a pennant filled with enamel in navy blue and amaranth colours. These are the colours worn by the school's students who did not yet belong to the cavalry regiments. Above the lance in the upper left corner there is an engraved inscription: " SZKOŁA JAZDY KONNEJ/C.W.Kaw", in the lower right corner there is an engraved inscription: "In memory of the pleasant hospitality during the hunting season in Łańcut". On the right side of the lid there is an engraved signature of W. GONTARCZYK. Inside, the case is lined with thin polished mahogany wood boards. Above each pennant adorning the side walls of the case there is the rank and name of the commander. One of the emerald and yellow pennants belonged to the 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment stationed in Łańcut and defending the town in September 1939. In 1937 this regiment was motorized. Due to their black coats and helmets very similar to those of the Germans, they were called "Schwarzenbrygade", and during World War II the Germans often mistook them for their army.
The case was donated to Alfred Antoni Potocki by the Driving School in Grudziądz in 1937. The abbreviation "C.W.Kaw" stands for Centrum Wyszkolenia Kawalerii (Cavalry Training Center).
