Beer accompanies man almost from the beginning of civilization. The first records of it indicate that the ancient Sumerians were involved in its production. Since then, it has become one of the most popular drinks in the world. In Pomerania, they were initially brewed for private use in households. Over time, the production of beer on a more massive scale was taken over by monasteries and municipal breweries. The intensive development of Pomeranian brewing took place in the 19th century. It was then that several dozen breweries were established in Szczecin itself, among which the Stettiner Bergschloss Brauerei was the most dynamically developing. As part of the brand promotion, advertisements for the manufactured product appeared in the local press, and colored, enameled signs were produced. The latter, signed by the Atelier Leroi company from Neu-Isenburg, presented a smiling brewery worker in a blue uniform holding beer bottles with brewery labels. Such advertising signs were then offered to restaurateurs, innkeepers and shop owners who were interested in selling beer. These boards were quickly distributed not only in Szczecin, but also throughout Germany at that time, becoming the company's showpiece.
