Drawing by Zbigniew Taszycki (born 1955) was created in 1990. It is a part of a monumental series, consisting of several works drawn in charcoal, graphite and pastels. From 1982, the year in which Taszycki received his diploma from the State Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (currently University of Fine Arts), until the end of the 1980s, the artist focused on drawing and painting. The series of works, completed by the artist in 1990, which includes the drawing from the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin, serves as the formal end to the period, in which Taszycki's works formally refer to the aesthetics of the 1980s and the dominant expressionist trends of the time. Taszycki's large-format drawing was created during a session running fro several days, during which the artist worked on several pieces in the same series at the same time, drawing them on joined together pieces of paper laid out on the floor of the studio. All the drawings in the series share a similar energy, size and abstract theme. In line with the rule used by Taszycki, they have no titles, which – according to the artist's intention – gives the viewer greater freedom in reading them. During the time, when the drawing from the Szczecin Museum collection was created, Taszycki's artistic practice was dominated by an interest in space and in situ projects, involving the transformation of gallery interiors where the artist presented his works. Walls, ceiling and floor, as well as spatial relations in individual interiors became the main theme and aim of his projects. The new style of Taszycki's work, which focused on the space, did not mean a radical departure of two-dimensional works such as paintings or drawings from his oeuvre. They are still present in his artistic practice, often constituting an element of spatial arrangements created by the artist.
