Fryderyk Lubomirski

Part of the collection: Painting and drawing

Popularization note

Portrait of Fryderyk Lubomirski The painting (oval in a rectangle) behind a glass, shows the bust of a young man on a neutral background. The portrait, done by an unknown painter, stems from the first half of the 19th century; it has a wooden, profiled, gilded frame, at the corners of which (the points where the oval of the portrait is transformed into the rectangular frame) triangles are formed by bevelling. The lower bar of the frame has in its centre a long label, with the inscription ”Fryderyk X Lubomirski”. Fryderyk Wilhelm Lubomirski (b. in 1779, d. in May 1848 in Równe) was son to Józef Aleksander Lubomirski, the castellan of Kyiv, and Ludwika Sosnowska; his brother was Henryk Lubomirski. He had properties in Chernivtsi and Równe (the palace does not exist any more). He was the chamberlain of the Russian tsar, vice-governor of Volhynia and a general of Polish armed forces. Married to Franciszka Załuska, he had a son, Kazimierz, with her. The portrait is shown in the Boucher salon in the first floor of the Castle of Łańcut, beside the painting of the brother.
