Part of the collection: Clocks
The floor clock is housed in a three-part tall cabinet typical of English longcase clocks of ca. 1780-1810.
The overlapping hood flanked by columns, covered by a mansard roof topped with a semi-circle, with a glazed door and two side peep-holes, houses the mechanism with the dial. The slender cabinet shaft, also with a door and a high pedestal on four legs, is the place for the long pendulum and weights. The mahogany veneered outer surfaces of the cabinet are decorated with blackened profiled cornices and half-arches. The clock mechanism has a weight drive, a hook catch and a long heavy pendulum on a steel suspension. The pendulum lens suspension is height-adjustable by screw. There is a separate drive for the clock and calendar mechanism, and a separate drive for the striking of half-hours and hours on a single bell with a comb system. A pinwheel regulator increases precision, while a repetition mechanism allows the striking of the last hour to be heard. On the dial, the clock indicates the seconds (in Arabic numerals) on a small separate dial in the central field of the large dial. On the large brass dial, in concentric arrangement, indications of minutes (in Arabic numerals and lines) and hours (in Roman numerals). Calendar days are presented in Arabic numerals, in a small square hole below the axis of the hands. Slightly above there are two holes for tensioning the weights.
