Part of the collection: Lamps, chandeliers and sconces
A candle-holder for one candle, electrified at the beginning of the 20th century, one of two candle-holders decorating the chimney in the office of the Lord Ordynat on the ground floor of the castle. The bulbs generate light via a hot tungsten filament. In spite of broad application of bulbs, they are not such efficient source of light as it could seem, as approx. 5% of energy generated in this mode (the result of flow of electricity through the filament) is changed into light, while as much as 95% is emitted by the filament in the form of heat. The discussed candle-holder is made of sculpted wood, painted and gilded. The round base is decorated with stylised leaves, supported on an octagonal base; it transitions into the spirally ribbed stem, decorated with leaves and flowers. At the top, the stem ends with a head decorated with acanthus leaves with a round bobèche, ended with a case made of white glass for the bulb. The flower and leaf decoration on the stem of the candle-holder is painted in red and dark green colours. The entire candle-holder was made of a single piece of gilded wood.
