Part of the collection: Lamps, chandeliers and sconces
Electrified pendant chandelier. The development of candlesticks has taken place from the Middle Ages to the present day, with the difference that the bulb has replaced the candle. The candlestick in question has eight lights, is made of brass and is electrified, dates from the 19th century and decorates the Room Under the Views on the ground floor of the castle. Bowl-shaped body, ribbed, with a cone-shaped finial at the bottom. The surface of the bowl is decorated with a grapevine ornament. A profiled stem with applied metal rings emerges from the centre of the bowl. Four chains with decorative links are attached to the rim of the bowl body, coming together at the top to the finial of the candlestick in the form of a round metal element with an ornament around the rim. From the rim of the bowl body, eight S-shaped arms curved upward extend, with milk glass sleeves and candle bulbs. In incandescent lamps, light is emitted by a tungsten filament that has been heated (as a result of current flow). Despite the current widespread use of incandescent lamps, they are not as efficient a source of light as one might think, since only about 5% of the energy created (as a result of the current flowing through the filament) is converted into light and as much as 95% is emitted by the filament in the form of heat.
