Part of the collection: Photography
The photograph depicts a fragment of the park of Łańcut with the moat and fragments of the crowns of the lime trees along the moat. This lime tree alley was planted around the moat by princess Izabella Lubomirska (d. 1816) after the embankments, formerly in front of the moat, were removed. The earth embankments, with the walls and moat, constituted the Łańcut fortifications created in the 17th century. At the end of the 18th century, the system was useless, hence, inside the moat, directly at the castle, the first garden was established, with lime tree alleys planted where the embankments around the moat were removed. They grew out, and, together with the plants overgrowing the walls, made the castle exceedingly picturesque. Aldona Cholewianka-Kruszyńska
