Table

Part of the collection: Furniture and interior furnishings

Popularization note

A low, rectangular table in the English type, imitating elements of English furniture from around 1740. Each of the sides of the table is made identically. The legs are bent in the style of the so-called "cabriole legs", with four distinct edges, ending at the bottom with the form of a flattened animal paw. The apron of the table is straight with rounded corners, slightly protruding above the legs. In the middle of each side there is a small carved motif, as if of a fan turned downwards. On the longer sides, there are also two symmetrically arranged rosettes in a circle. The table has double-plate top. The upper one is low, smooth, the lower one is protruding, decorated with a carved floral ornament. Similarly, the legs are carved at the base with floral motifs and pearls. The top and the apron of the table are veneered with light walnut. Mahogany veneer is on the underside. The upper part of the tabletop is decorated with a large, rectangular veneer panel with birch burr spots. On the recessed, central parts of the apron of the table, rectangular panels made of similar birch burr veneer.
